The “clash of civilizations” defines much of how we are led by our media to view the world we live in today. Yet in a majority world view there is a different perspective: that the clash of civilizations is concept invented to maintain a conflict between “us” and “them” to continue a cold war after the cold war had finished. We replaced communists with muslims. The first part of this lecture by Edward Said opens up this discussion. It makes us reconsider the question of “us” v “them” and opens up our minds to re-imagining a world based on mutual interest and respect.
