The brilliant Edward Tufte has much to teach us about great use of information and analysis to solve problems (or even simply explain ourselves). The work above is a data visualization that becomes art. Tufte is one of the leading teachers of the relationship between information and art, of right and left brain co-creating communication and of the importance of creating information representations that communicate effectively. He is a sculptor and artist and well as a professor and mathematician. In this interview he describes his work for The Washington Post.

Tufte has had a huge influence on both strategic and design thinkers. It is because he understands and promotes the importance of aesthetics as narrative. Too often in marketing and other forms of communication we rely on the words when in fact the aesthetic communicates a huge amount. Apple gets this. Many other tech companies do not.
