Learning from The Dubai Future Foundation #2

The Dubai Future Foundation refers to future education opportunities as “School for Wisdom”. In this scenario of opportunity the needs of a post industrial society powered by AI means “the ability to synthesise information and knowledge may be less critical”. There would be a “quantum shift” for education away from STEM and towards creative thinking, management of multiple perspectives and ability to make consequential judgements. In other words the soft skills of socialization and the imaginative skills of creativity come to the fore when machines take away the need to compute.

“As the world grows increasingly more complex and interconnected, scientific, societal, and technological challenges and spill-overs will seemingly require sophisticated solutions471 and wisdom will be more important than ever.”

– The Dubai Institute for the Future

Is “wisdom” the right frame? Maybe. But it also may be that human social and creative skills, the skills of our ancestors, become more valuable. This is an immediate need in business as the processes of innovation and marketing can be rigid and computational. If machines can collate and analyze the information then people can imagine the future.
